Improving Project Performance: Effective Project Controls

Most organizations execute projects, but many haven’t adopted an effective process for tracking progress and controlling project performance.  An effective project Controls process will answer these questions:

  • What tasks are running behind or costing more than we anticipated, and what is the impact on the project?
  • Are there opportunities to get our project back on track?
  • When will be finish and what will the total cost be when we are done?

Agenda

  1. What is Project Controls and what are the benefits to your organization?
  2. How can you implement an early warning system for project performance?
  3. Does EVM have to be hard to be effective?

Improving Project Performance: Simplifying and Automating Project Controls

Organizations often maintain project schedules to support project execution and to direct resources regarding when tasks should begin and finish.  However, maintaining an integrated cost and schedule system can be time-consuming and tedious. Project controls professionals should be evaluating:

  • How can we track and manage both project cost and schedule performance?
  • How can we implement standard Project Controls processes for our organization?
  • How can we ensure our Project Controls processes are efficient?

 Agenda

  1.  Why is cost and schedule integration important and what are the best practices?
  2. How can I integrate and automate updates from our financial systems with my project performance reporting and analysis?
  3. What’s the best way to standardize and automate project controls processes such as progressing schedules, forecasting, and variance analysis?

Improving Project Performance:  Contract Requirements and Compliance

Many federal government contractors are faced with acquisition regulations specifying contractual project performance reporting requirements.  Regulations may require the implementation of a Integrated Master Schedule and a compliant Earned Value Management System (EVMS).

  • What are the project performance reporting requirements for the agency we are supporting?
  • What can we do to transition from an ‘agency to vendor’ relationship to a ‘collaborative’ customer relationship?
  • What are the government EVMS requirements and how can ensure our systems are compliant?

 Agenda

  1. How do I identify my organizations contractual requirements for project performance reporting?
  2. What can we do to provide timely, accurate, and actionable customer reporting?
  3. How can I ensure my EVM System is compliant with government standards?
